Pre and Post Op Prostatectomy Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Starting pelvic floor muscle training before surgery and ongoing training has been shown to improve patient continence and erectile function outcomes post prostatectomy.

Real time Ultrasound is utilized both for assessment and biofeedback when training men in pelvic floor muscle exercises.

At a pre operative visit expect in depth education around male pelvic anatomy, the changes that occur to the continence mechanism when the prostate is removed is provided, as well as how we can train the pelvic floor muscles to compensate for these changes. Erectile dysfunction and penile rehabilitation is addressed in this session.

Preexisting bladder, bowel and erectile function is assessed.

Partners are welcome and encouraged to attend the appointments both to be able to provide support but to also provide them with an opportunity to ask questions.
